Magnolia Seeds

Watercolor, 2018, ~12”x9”

The owner of Cafe Bambino in Seattle gave me an armload of tree prunings, and I began to draw the leaves, seed pods, stems. I made bouquets for the table. A couple weeks passed. One day I looked at the branches, and lo, this seed pod had pushed out its seeds, as you see here. Cherry red, glossy, hard, bigger than pomegranate seeds, smaller than olives.
