Aleppo Street

Glass, , ~14”x11”, Linocut, 12”x9”.

This started out as a linocut based on a drawing I made in Aleppo, Syria, in March . To make the glass print, the un-inked linoleum block is pressed into raw plaster, making a mold to melt glass into. Then I turned this glass print over so the molded glass was face up (left image), rolled oil-based ink onto the glass and then printed from it onto paper (right image). I left the ink to dry on the glass, which took nearly a month, because I found the outcome very interesting. The two prints (below) appear as mirror images, because the paper print (in color) is taken directly from the original linoleum block and therefore is reversed from how I cut it, while the glass print is a reversal of a reversal, so we see it as I cut the original linocut.
