Tulips, Red Background

Gouache, 2004, 6”x4”.

A bad moment overcome in Amsterdam, where I was wandering from museum to museum by myself and feeling clumsy. Gouache is an opaque watercolor, and I wasn’t very clever with it. There were flowers in my hotel room, and I thought I’d try them on the red tablecloth. But oddly the leaves kept growing and pushing the flowers out of the picture. Once I decided that was all right, the picture and my mood improved!
