This pair of sculptures made through lost-wax casting may look very much alike, but they have many subtle differences in addition to the major difference of color. Each began as colorless art glass in a mold based on a wax original. The waxes themselves were cast from an earlier mold, and then modified in stance and fine details. The color of Day was produced in the firing by adding copper, the color of Night by scrubbing the glass with turquoise and black after firing. Every step fraught with potential disaster, but the outcome very good, excellent even.
